18.08. first activation from DLFF-174 as DA0CW/p

Just three days after the latest activation I started this time together with some colleagues to activate the new DLFF-174, the nature-reserve Wondreb-Aue.
Günter DC2RK, Xaver DK4RM, Armin DL7RAE, Gerald DL8RBS and Manfred DF6EX began with the setup at 0530. The area is normally only reachable by foot via closed wood-tracks. We applied several weeks ago for special-permission and so a limited number was able to transport everything required by car.Propagations were not too good as well as the contest-activities made all a bit tricky.
Finally we ended with 684 contacts. Thanks to all stations who called us.
All QSOs will be confirmed automatically via bureau by our QSL-manager Heinz DL7RAG.
A report about the activity can be found here

15.08. first activation from DLFF-150 as DA0CW/p

A bit unplanned we started on our free day august 15th to saxonia to activate the new DLFF-150 Großer Weidenteich. After about 70 minutes we arrived there and found a nice place between two small towns directly in the nature-reserve. Weather was beautiful but conditions were very changeable. There were only short spots were 20 was open at all. So best band again was 40 meters. Altogether 296 contacts could be made. Around 11UTC the bands were going more and more down and we decided to return back home. Thank you for the QSOs, all will be confirmed automatically via buro by Heinz DL7RAG.

OK-00273 Castle of Kynzvart

As shortly decided we were active today from the Castle of Kynzvart, Czech Republic under my callsign OK8WFF/p.
Conditions were absolutely terrible with rain and rain and rain. When going out of the car to change the band you were totally wet.
So finally 2,5 hours of operation ended with 136 contacts which are valid for national-park Slavkovsky Les OKFF-006 for World Flora Fauna Award and OK-00273 Castle of Kynzvart for World Castle Award.

Upload for the electronic logs will be sent to the responsible persons today. Bureau QSL-cards will leave next weekend.

Castle of Leuchtenberg DL-02339 and DLFF-093

Again an absolutely unplanned activity we decided within half an hour today to go to a new castle. The Castle of Leuchtenberg has the WCA-reference DL-02339 and the COTA-reference BOB 005. Additionally it´s located in the nature park “nördlicher Oberpfälzer Wald”. Altogether operation-time were 112 minutes with bad conditions on 17 meters and fine conditions on 20 meters which produced altogether 195 QSOs in the Log. QSOs for DA0CW/p as usual via the buro to DL7RAG. You don´t need to send your card. Cards will go in the buro automatically. More informations about the activity can be found here

DA0CW/p 21.may 2011 wrap-up WFF DLFF-119 and WCA DL-02346

The 10th WFF-operation of Team DA0CW is history but a very successful one.

Beside the activation of Nature-Park Steinwald DLFF-119 which was a new one for a lot of callers we were able to hand out also the World-Castle-Award Counter DL-02346 for the nearby located Castle of Weissenstein (first activation). Propagation made it not easy from the beginning but in the second half of the roundabout 5 hours lasting operation we had a nice short-skip opening on 14MHz with more than 200 contacts in a row. Everything resulted finally in 722 QSOs, (last year we made 460 contacts from another location in DLFF-119). The mix of contacts showed 60 percent CW and 40 percent SSB, top-band was 14 MHz with 347 contacts, followed by 7 Mhz with 155 and 18 MHz with 146 QSO. We tried also 80 meters but seems that the low bands were not so productive after the heavy thunderstorms in the latest days before because also the 7 Mhz result was poor compared with the latest activities from other locations. Anyway the total-result was very well and with the previous year activity there are together nearly 1200 contacts with DLFF-119 in the record-database. After good 5 hours of operation the generator stopped and again a heavy weather appeared. So we decided to brake down the equipment to get it dry and safe into our cars. After dismanteling everything we decided to make a fast trip back into the history of this famous location  and made a short sightseeing through the remaining ruine of Weissenstein, built in the 13th century. On top of the scenery you have a wonderful view around the beautiful nature. However starting of thunder and lightning made our tour only a short one and we preferred to left immediately before the rain starts. We were not successful with this plan so we reached our cars a bit wet but very satisfied with the result.

The team consisted by Günther DC2RK, preparing trailer and all the equipment around including his excellent coffee-service for the operators, Xaver DK4RM operating 30 and 17 meters CW only, Manfred DF6EX operating 40 and 20 meters CW and SSB.

Additional WFF-report which we write for all our activations to the WFF can be viewed here.

DA0CW/p DLFF-119 Nature Park Steinwald May, 21

May 21, Team DA0CW/p will be active from Nature Park Steinwald at abt 760meter asl.
Operation will last from about 0530 UTC till 1100 UTC.

DA0CW/p will hand out DLFF-119 and also WCA DL-02346 Burgruine Weissenstein. Participants will be Günther DC2RK, Xaver DK4RM and Manfred DF6EX. Activity will be on 40, 30, 20, 17 meters, probably also 80meter at the early beginning but not sure right now.
QSL-card as usual for the DA0CW-activities via DL7RAG. You don´t need to send your QSL-card as we don´t collect cards for our portable-operations.
All QSOs will be confirmed from us automatically via bureau. One week after the operation we will make the upload to the WFF-database and also to the WCA-database.
As the first operation from DLFF-119 in may 2010 was on a CW-contest-day we plan again to make the main-activity in CW. Please check the usual WFF-frequencies and if you find us, please spot us in the cluster.
QSL-cards for the latest activity are in print and will be in the bureau the next four weeks. Upload for DLFF-060 log was done to Igor EW4DX.
Thanks and hope to contact you on saturday,

DA0CW/p activation DLFF-060 07.May2011

We were long time thinking about make it or not. There was another activation from here just one week ago but finally we decided to make it and the decision was well. After arriving in Nature Park Frankenwald we started to assemble antennas and equipment around 0600 utc. We used double-dipoles for 40/20 and 30/17 meters plus a dipole for 15 meters. The team this time consisted by Günther DC2RK with his perfect fieldday-trailer full-packed with different masts and tools, Josef DO6RZ made PSK31 with his FT950, Xaver DK4RM gave out DLFF-060 on 30 and 17 meter with his FT990 and Manfred DF6EX with FT2000D on 40 and 20 meter.
After a slow begin at 0658UTC on 20meters we moved to 40 and had a real good run especially on CW. Propagation also improved and our top hour was between 09 and 10 utc with 162 QSOs. In phone there was lot of activity also from other WFF-operations so we used the CW-portions without contest very effective and made 60 percent of the QSO in this mode.
First contact was EW6AF at 0658 UTC and the last in our log was DL1RMJ at 1137. So the 629 QSO with 585 different stations were not too bad and we finally were very satisfied and left the area.

Additional WFF-report which we write for all our activations to the WFF can be viewed here.

Activation DLFF-060 over

DLFF-060 was also in 2010 in our planning-list however at the end autumn reached too fast so we thought to do it this year. When we were more often in contact with Klaus DL1ASF, we heard that he was also planning this direction. Last week DL1ASF/p had the chance to be here and made an activation. I was checking the area one day before to find a good location for our team when we got the news about the planned activity one day later.
So at first we were a bit in doubt if it makes sense to be QRV from here one week later and were planning some alternative activations. However at the end of coming week we decided to go. Saturday morning at 0430utc the team-members started. We met in our destination, building antenna, setting up generator and stations so we started at 0700utc. At first it was a difficult beginning, running not so well, however around 0800utc we started through and the QSO-rate was raising. Altogether 629QSO made it in our log and we closed the camp at 1137 and started our travel back home.
Thanks to all who made it a successful operation.
